"Maroon Fock" is our newest Sunday Volleyball champion after knocking out a couple of worthy opponents in straight sets.
Their first challenge of the night was the #4 "Black Mambas", who had won minutes before in the 4 v 5 matchup. Despite a strong showing for "Black Mambas" in that game, they were unable to keep up with "Maroon Fock". Instead, the best team all season kept their cool during key moment of high pressure and focused on the fundamentals of the game to ensure victory, winning 21-17 and 21-15.
On the other side of the bracket it was a clash of veteran squads with "I'd Hit That" taking out the higher ranked "The Regulators" in two sets. It wasn't really an upset as both teams came into the night with identical records, but a great win nonetheless for "I'd Hit That" to set them up for what was a tough championship opponent.
In our final it was "I'd Hit That", a solid team that took the league last season, versus the challenger in "Maroon Fock". "Maroon Fock" is no stranger to championship games, but it's been a couple of seasons since they've been here, so you know they were excited to be back.
The games stayed close, but "Maroon Fock" didn't let the pressure set in and played an excellent two games, just as they did earlier in the afternoon. Their combination of big hitters and great passers solidified their spot at number one. That including a thrilling game 1 finish where they won 22-20 followed by a convincing 21-15 win in game 2.
Congratulations to "Maroon Fock" for regaining the top spot in our Sunday Volleyball league!
