The Thursday Beginner Volleyball league at Mather Sports Center saw an exciting conclusion this week as Keep Digging (9-1-0) triumphed over SERVE-ivors (8-2-0) in straight sets to take home the championship. Both teams made impressive runs to the final, with SERVE-ivors battling their way past Free Ballin’ (2-0) in the semifinals and Keep Digging overcoming DIG (2-1) in a close contest. But when it came to the finals, Keep Digging proved they had the edge.
The match was played on Court 1 at MSC, and it was clear from the start that Keep Digging had the momentum. Their serves were on point, and their defense remained solid, allowing them to cruise to a 21-13 victory in the first set. SERVE-ivors, while showing some flashes of strong play, couldn’t seem to break through the defensive wall put up by Keep Digging. The second set was no different, with Keep Digging dominating with a 21-11 win, securing the title in straight sets.
The win earned Keep Digging the championship trophy, and they’ll look to build on their success in the upcoming seasons. On the other hand, SERVE-ivors fought hard throughout the season and will no doubt come back stronger next time. The league had plenty of competitive moments, and with teams like Free Ballin’ and DIG showing strong potential, next season’s tournament is sure to be just as exciting.
