The Wednesday Night Intermediate Women’s Volleyball League at the Mather Sports Center wrapped up in dramatic fashion on September 3, closing out a season full of competitive games and exciting rivalries. After seven weeks of hard-fought play, the semifinals and finals brought out the best in every team and gave fans a championship night to remember.
In the first semifinal matchup, Ruckus entered as the number four seed and stunned top-ranked Bump n’ Grind in a tight three-set match. Bump n’ Grind had been consistent all summer, stacking up wins against teams like That’s What She Set and You Got Served, but Ruckus’s aggressive swings and scrappy defense proved to be the difference. The upset victory sent Ruckus into the finals with momentum on their side. On the other court, the second-seeded Trash Pandas faced Hits Don’t Lie in what was expected to be a close battle. Instead, the Pandas came out sharp from the start, cruising through in straight sets. Their chemistry, which had been on display all season long in wins over Bump n’ Grind and in multiple clashes with Ruckus, carried them smoothly into the championship.
The finals set up a rematch between two teams that had built a rivalry throughout the season: Trash Pandas versus Ruckus. Both squads had split wins earlier in the summer, but this time there was no doubt who would come out on top. The Trash Pandas dominated from start to finish, rolling through the first set 21–8 before closing it out 21–12 in the second. Behind consistent serving, quick transitions, and clutch swings at the net, the Pandas sealed the title in straight sets without needing a third. Ruckus fought hard until the end, but the Pandas’ teamwork and execution were simply too much on championship night.
In the end, it was the Trash Pandas who rose above the rest, capturing the Wednesday Night Intermediate Women’s Volleyball crown in style. Congratulations to the champions, and thank you to every team for making this season such a spirited and competitive one. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone back on the court next season!
