It was a damp and sandy evening at Howe Park for our Wednesday Beginner Sand Volleyball playoffs, but the teams rolled with the conditions and turned it into one of the most fun, high-energy nights of the season. Even with the courts still holding water from the week’s weather, everyone came ready to compete, laugh, and get a little messy... the perfect combination for a memorable championship night.
The quarterfinals started off with 4-seed Gold Diggers battling 5-seed Volley Stealers in a tight match where every point mattered. Gold Diggers outlasted the Stealers 2-1, just enough to advance. Over in the other matchup, 3-seed Sets on the Beach took on 6-seed Pumpkin Spike Latte and handled business cleanly, punching their ticket to the semifinals with strong serving and steady communication, winning 2-0.
The semifinals brought the intensity up a level. In the first match, 4-seed Gold Diggers stunned the top-seeded Cold 6 Pack with confident swings and consistent ball control, sealing a 2-0 win. On the other side of the bracket, 3-seed Sets on the Beach faced 2-seed Big Ol Hitties in a close, competitive match that stayed tight until the final points. Sets on the Beach found their rhythm late and sealed the win to earn their place in the championship match, 2-1.
The finals featured 4 seed Gold Diggers vs. 3 seed Sets on the Beach, and the crowd got a great one. Despite the soft, wet sand conditions, both teams played with great enthusiasm and energy. Sets on the Beach came out sharp, taking the first set 21–11, controlling the pace and minimizing errors. Gold Diggers rallied hard in the second, pushing the score into a much closer 21–18, but Sets on the Beach held strong and closed it out in two straight sets to claim the championship.
Congratulations to Sets on the Beach, your Wednesday Beginner Sand Volleyball Champions! A huge shoutout to all teams for embracing the messy courts, keeping spirits high, and making this a great night of volleyball at Howe Park.
